CORALLO ANTICO

This extraordinary antique ring takes you back to the world of the early 19th century around 1820.

The centerpiece of the piece of jewelry is a finely carved coral cameo depicting a bacchante, the goddess of wine. 

The cameo is of very high quality and carved in great detail. The bacchante's hair is elaborately decorated with vine leaves, 

this reveals impressive details even under a magnifying glass.

A bacchante is a female follower of the wine god Bacchus.

Bacchantes, also known as maenads, were often companions of Bacchus in ancient mythology and 

symbolized ecstasy, joie de vivre, closeness to nature and the debauchery 

associated with the consumption of wine and the Dionysia (festivals in honor of the god).

The cameo, created around 1820 in the Biedermeier period, is an authentic work of art of its time.

The coral was set in a solid, antique-style setting made of 750 (18 carat) yellow gold. 

This is more recent, but blends harmoniously into the historical style of the ring. 

The lower section of the ring band features a deep red cabochon-cut garnet, which has been discreetly incorporated into the high-quality ring band.

The ring shoulders are decorated with stylized buds that open gently towards the ring head and frame the cameo in an aesthetic way.
